Discover The Answer To The 10 Most Common Affiliate Marketing Merchant Questions

By Jeremy Gislason

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a promotion and income generating system where you, as an affiliate marketer, earn a commission for promoting a product or service. The most frequently used payment arrangements include pay-per-sale, pay-per-lead, or pay-per-click compensations. Affiliate marketers generally operate by owning a website where they drive traffic and sales to their represented companies.

For example, if you represent a clothing manufacturer like L.L. Bean you would have a website dedicated to clothing or outdoor wear. Your website could use a number of tools including content with embedded links, banner advertising, and promotional content to encourage your website visitors to click your designated link through to L.L. Bean. Depending on how you’re compensated, if the visitor then makes a purchase at L.L. Bean you are compensated a percentage of the sale.

Affiliate marketing is credited to have been developed by CDNow.com and Amazon.com. Experts were initially critical of the programs however Amazon claims more than 1 million affiliates worldwide.

2. What can I expect to make as an affiliate marketer?

There are many naysayers popping up who say that affiliate marketing is on the decline. However, many affiliate marketers will tell you this just isn’t the case. There is still a tremendous amount of money to be made as an affiliate marketer. How much you make is largely dependent on your compensation agreement, your chosen niche, how much work you put into your business, and your competition. Experts agree that the key to affiliate marketing is to stick with it. Profits will increase as your business and website grow.

3. What are expected start-up costs?

One of the benefits of being an affiliate marketer is that there are very few startup costs. Basic startup costs include a:

• Website
• Domain name
• Computer
• Phone
• Fax/efax

If you already have a computer, then the startup costs are extremely minimal. Other costs will include writing copy for your website. You can write your own copy to minimize these costs. Advertising, including Pay-Per-Click campaigns and placing banner ads in ezines and relevant websites is a great way to send traffic to your websites, however it can be costly. When placing ads or using PPC, consider starting small to keep costs low and test your campaigns to optimize return on investment.

4. What skills do I need to be successful?

To be a successful, and profitable, affiliate marketer will want to have some basic research skills. What are you researching? Plenty! Obtaining the keywords that will generate the most profit, the products that will sell the best and pay well, which advertising and marketing means will work best for your products, and most importantly…who your target market is and what they want.

5. How do I choose affiliate marketing programs?

You can find appropriate affiliate marketing programs online via search engines, by visiting companies you’re familiar with and respect, and by searching affiliate directories. Before you sign up with a company here’s what to look for:

• High quality products and services. Respect your customers and only endorse products you believe in. If you endorse an inferior product, you will lose the respect of your customer. There are thousands of quality companies available, there’s no reason to endorse an inferior product.

• Look at the merchant’s side and make sure ordering and fulfillment processes are handled professionally.

• Ask the merchant about their conversion ratio and investigate their sales copy. Your time, you’re your customer’s time is valuable. You want to send customers to merchants who are able to close the deal.

• Commissions. How will you get paid? Do you get paid per sale or paid per lead?

• Support. All affiliate support will be detailed in the company’s affiliate guide.

• Look for companies that provide sales and marketing materials for you to use in your promotions.

• Tiered Commission. Do you get paid for recruiting affiliates? Some companies pay you if you send them affiliates. This is called a two tiered commission and it can generate tremendous profits.

• Cookies. How long will your cookies last? Generally, most companies offer cookies that last 30 to 90 days. A 60 day cookie means that if your customer visits a company website and then comes back 59 days later and makes a purchase, you get the commission.

6. What is an affiliate network?

An affiliate network is a company that essentially works as the mediator between the company offering the product or service and the affiliate marketer. An affiliate network company will provide sales tracking, click through rates, conversion statistics, and will often issue checks and handle payments.

7. What are cookies and why are they important?

Cookies are small text files set up on a user’s computer. How long they stay on the computer is called the cookie life. If you’re an affiliate marketer, cookies are important because they determine if you are paid for a visitor’s purchase or not. When a visitor comes to your affiliate website, a cookie is placed on their computer. If they then visit the merchant site during the life of the cookie you, as the affiliate, get the commission. If they visit the merchant site after the cookie has expired then no commission is paid. This is why lifetime cookies are valuable to an affiliate marketer.

8. What are text links and why are they important?

Text links are the hyperlinks to the product or service you’re promoting. They only have text in the body of the link, rather than a graphic. They’re generally embedded in your copy. I’m sure you’ve read an article and there are several links scattered throughout. These are text links and they have proven to work significantly better for click through rates and conversions than banner advertisements. Banner ads, while they are still effective, are not as effective as text links.

9. How do I make more profits?

One of the absolute best tools to make profits as an affiliate marketer is content. Advertising is important, a niche market is important, quality products are important, tiered affiliate programs are important, and a portfolio of a variety of products is helpful but the number one tool for more affiliate profits is content. Content drives traffic to your website. Content provides value to your visitors. Content helps your website get ranked on the search engines. Content sells your products and services and drives traffic to the companies you represent. Content gives you profits!

What kind of content works best?

• Articles
• Blogs
• Reviews
• E-books
• Reports
• E-Zines

10. What are banners and why are they important?

Banners are the graphic advertisements you see on many websites. Most companies will provide you with banners of a variety of size, design, and with varying copy. For example, when you join an affiliate program you will often receive an basic affiliate link which may simply advertise the company logo and have the words “Click Here” or “Buy Now.” You’ll also likely receive a promotional banner which may have a discount off of the product, free shipping, or highlight a new product.

Banner ads are excellent resources as advertisements in e-zines and relevant websites.

Best Internet Marketing Tips-How to Use the Social Marketing Giant Facebook To Attract Pioneer Doers

by Ontarian Hawkins
Facebook has surpassed Myspace for the Gold in social marketing popularity. Many are now flocking to this site for more exposure, tools, and marketing.

Copyright (c) 2008 Ontarian Ke'Chan Hawkins

So you want to know one of the best internet marketing tips available to man? Join social marketing giant Facebook while it's still hot. Facebook has become the new "party zone" for some of the most elite entrepreneurs in the world which includes network marketers, small business owners, work from home junkies, etc. Unlike former social media giant, Myspace, Facebook continues to be the cornerstone for slick marketing tactics with features that makes life simple being an online marketer. However, there are some tips you will need to know to maximize your exposure, and attract pioneer doers into your business.

1. Start a Group- Starting a group is a slick strategy at Facebook, because it allows you to build an additional list tied to the one you are currently building for your business. The ideal concept here is to invite other users to join your group once you create one, and slowly but surely you will see high potential prospects join your group. Once you attain a good number into your group you can send out to the entire list with one click.

2. Build the Relationship- I see numerous network marketers and other business owners go wrong in this area. Social and networking go hand in hand. If you are not trying to create conversations in order to build relationships, then you will not succeed on Facebook. Rest assured, others will notice if you are out only for yourself and not for the interest of others. Write on someones' wall, make a valid comment, or just send someone a message to spark conversation. Don't go around trying to convince others to join your deal. This will cause you to lose all credibility that you have gained thus far.

3. Exhaust the Media- Facebook has so many features to get the word out as quick as possible about your business, and who you are as an entrepreneur. You can also tie in your Twitter account to making it so simple for your friends to see your updates. Using video marketing will be a blast on this social marketing giant. Each time you upload a video, you get the option of tagging some of your friends. When this happen, your video will show up on their profile giving you extra traffic to your website(s).

If you haven't set up a profile at Facebook yet, now is the time. These social marketing strategies are sure to help you get a good jump start in gaining more exposure and credibility for your business. Taking all 3 of the tips above into consideration will help you succeed in your internet marketing efforts.

Cash gifting is also known as cash leveraging, and it does work if you know how to drive traffic. All you have to do is set up the website you're given and drive traffic to this site by using the many methods which are revealed in your program's back office as well as from your mentor.

Chasing countless leads for hours is a thing of the past. Making a residual income or rather receiving residual gifts is a matter of finding a reputable mentor/sponsor that wants YOU to succeed. The importance of internet marketing success is finding someone who values your success as much as their own. It's always wise to thoroughly research an inviter before you join.

If a mentor or sponsor is overly aggressive and concerned about their own success, typically they are just telling you what y@8@and will leave you hanging high and dry. Creating a residual income with cash gifting can happen, but only if you make an effort. You must be willing to devote time and gather some knowledge of internet marketing success from your mentor. Do your research and make sure you are joining the right mentor before investing any money into your own cash gifting activity.

Earning a residual income with cash gifting is truly amazing. As long as you are dedicated and choose the right program/mentor for your specific needs, you will be successful with cash gifting as well. Attaining internet marketing success is a matter of tapping into your mentor's success plan.

Many programs make you pay before checking out their information. They entice you with get rich quick stories and expect you to pay up before they actually tell you what you're getting involved in. Cash gifting with the right mentor is totally different. With a reputable mentor and program you will only need to provide your name and contact information to get a free tour. If a mentor is not willing to give any free information, then both the mentor and the program are probably not the right choice.

There are many different programs out there that will try and tell you that they have the best system, the right way or the secret to internet marketing success. The ones that state they have the secret to millions or that you will make a ton of money by doing nothing are usually going to take your money and run. Internet Marketing And A Future Financial Focus

by: Scott Lindsay

One of the prime motivations for Internet marketing is that you don’t want to be in the same place you are right now - in 12 months.

In every business the predominant idea is to set goals that help you conduct business smarter, learn lessons faster and bring more business to your site.

The problem is many entrepreneurs tend to stay focused on their bottom line and to product fulfillment issues. By doing so they may indeed find themselves in the same place 12 months from now. They may also find their business has declined in total sales revenue.

How is that possible?

This is an interesting question especially when, from all appearances, the business owner IS paying attention to their business and that the sales are brisk. It can also seem baffling when it appears that the business owner is busier than they have ever been.

The problem may be that some of the details of business should be delegated to other employees, especially if the business is of significant size.

The sad truth is some business owners are spending too much time in the mailroom and not enough time in long-term strategic planning. Online business grows as new ideas are developed and implemented.

It is not unlike an architect spending all his or her time developing the entryway of a new luxury hotel while failing to draw up plans for the rest of the building. It looks nice from the outside, but the inside is in disarray.

What this means, in the broadest terms, is that you need to pay attention to all aspects of your online business. If you don’t feel adequate to manage certain aspects of the business then find someone who can. When you neglect certain aspects of your business you will almost always run the risk of a loss of long-term business. You will also be subjected to feast or famine cycles where you may have more work than you can handle for a period of time and not enough work for an equal or greater length of time.

It’s a given that you find your business to be an important part of your life. You have invested a lot in the success of your business and that investment is too great to simply allow glaring marketing omissions to go unchallenged.

Sometimes business owners adopt an out of sight - out of mind mentality. They avoid those things that are not on their immediate radar. They push back all those things that are not fires to attend only the tyranny of the urgent.

Internet marketing is one of the very first things to be cast from view for many businesses. The reason this is true is because the role of marketing seems to have little intrinsic value for those online shops that are currently doing a brisk business. It appears to be a sign that they did everything right and can move on to the role of bean counter.

Learn the art of balancing your business interests and include marketing as a prime component for achieving future goals.

The No Spin Zone - How I Make Money Online With Affiliate Marketing

By D. Grace Pruitt

Affiliate marketing provides first time online marketers like myself the chance to market something online even without having your own product to sell. It has become one of the most fastest and popular methods of selling other merchants or advertisers products online. The relationship between an online merchant or retailer and his affiliates (which would be someone like me) is called affiliate marketing, who which are willing to promote the merchant's product through their website.

As an affiliate, you are often paid on commission basis, although other online merchants would opt to pay a fixed fee for the affiliate's compensation, although I haven't came across this type yet? Actually, making money online with affiliate marketing is relatively quick and easy. It usually starts with the following simple approach:

1) Search Company
2) Read Terms
3) Sign-Up/Join
4) Acquire affiliate links
5) Post on your website

That's basically it. Most affiliate programs are great ways to make money on the Internet, however the trouble is that unless you are motivated you will struggle to make any money. The key with affiliate marketing, like every other aspect of doing business is search for qualified affiliate networks that will pay you when you've rightfully earned a commission, find an affordable web designer or build a website yourself for less cost and of course don't forget marketing efforts once your site is up and running. But luckily for you, I have found a service that offers a more streamlined approach to getting started with affiliate marketing including your own internet store to display and promote your affiliate products!

As I've mentioned briefly before, without an online presence, you will not be able to sell or promote anything online, that's why having a website or a service that will provide you with an online presence is a crucial part of your online affiliate marketing success. Without one, you will not be able to display the products nor can you receive commissions through the traceable links that is provided to you by the merchant or affiliate network you signed up with. So it is very important to get online presence as soon as possible! Especially if you are planning on doing affiliate marketing, or selling any product for that matter!

But other than that, making money online is extremely simple and easy if you have the right tools, resources and approach. Primarily the idea of making money online is attractive to many people, as it offersmany benefits. Although, making money with affiliate marketing is not new to the majority of individuals online trying to generate an online income, it just happens to be one of the best ways.

Optimum SEO Keyword Density - A Real-Life Case Study

By Glenn Murray

So you’ve built your website, you know what keywords you want to target (i.e. what words your customers are searching for), and you’re ready to write your copy. You’ve been told that you should use your keywords frequently so that you appear in search results for those words. But what does “frequently” mean?

How many times should you use your primary keyword? This case study helps answer that question.

Some background on ”Keyword Density”In order to understand optimum keyword usage, we first need to have some way of measuring keyword frequency. In the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) world, frequency is actually referred to as density. Keyword density is a measure of the number of times your keyword appears on a page expressed as a percentage of the total wordcount of that page. For example, if your page has 100 words, and your keyword phrase appears 5 times, its density is 5%. So when you hear someone say “keyword density”, that’s normally what they’re talking about. (TIP: You can automatically check the keyword density of your page at LiveKeywordAnalysis.com.)

However, there is another, more complex measure of keyword density which takes into account the text components in the HTML of the page (i.e. the meta tags: Title, Keywords, Alt Text, Description, and Comments). When using this measure, you don’t just count the words your visitor sees; you also count the words in your meta tags. For example, if you have 100 words on your home page, 10 words in your Title tag, 20 words in your Description tag, 70 words in your Alt tags, and 10 words in your Comments tag, your total wordcount for the page is 100 + 10 + 20 + 70 + 10 = 210. Similarly, when counting keywords, you don’t just add up the number of times a visitor will see your keyword, you also count the number of times that keyword appears in your meta tags. For example, if your keyword appears 5 times in the home page copy, 3 times in the Title tag, 5 times in the Description tag, 30 times in your Alt tags, and twice in your Comments tag, your total keyword count is 5 + 3 + 5 + 30 + 2 = 45. So with a total wordcount of 210 and a keyword count of 45, your keyword density is 45/210 x 100 = 21%. It is argued that this measure of keyword density is more relevant as the search engines measure density in this fashion. (TIP: You can automatically check the keyword density of your page using this more complex measure at GoRank.com.)

As you can see, you need to be very aware of which measure you’re talking about when you’re talking “keyword density”. But let me reiterate; mostly when people talk about keyword density, they’re talking the simple measure.

What is the optimum keyword densityAnd now down to business… What keyword density (of either kind) should you be targeting on your website?

There’s a lot of debate surrounding this issue because the search engine companies don’t disclose the details of their algorithms (as that would allow people to abuse the system). Instead, people working in the SEO world are left to figure it out based on their experience.

A recent article by respected SEO and Blog expert, Wayne Hurlbert, (see Keyword Density: SEO Considerations) suggests that Google sees pages with a keyword density of greater than 2% as spam. It was this article which prompted me to analyze the keyword density of my copywriting website.

CASE STUDY

The Website: This case study analyzes the website for my advertising copywriting and SEO copywriting business, Divine Write – http://www.divinewrite.com. For my primary keyword, my site is now on page 1 of Google.com (out of approximately 900,000 search results).

Number of pages on site: At the time of writing, my website contained a total of 53 pages.

Primary keyword phrase: “copywriter”

Average keyword density: Using the simple measure of keyword density discussed above, the average keyword density of my copywriting website is 1.9%. Using the complex measure it’s 4.9%.

Keyword density range: Using the simple measure, my density ranged from 0.4% to 7.6%. Using the complex measure it ranged from 1.6% to 17.5%

Some comments on the keyword density figuresThe figures and corresponding ranking detailed in this case study may not be directly relevant to every site. There’s a lot I don’t know about the algorithms and there are bound to be other factors at play which I don’t know about.
With regard to Wayne Hurlbert’s article, it would seem that he is referring to keyword density as calculated using the simple method discussed above.
The range figures are noteworthy because they suggest that you don’t need to be paranoid about having some pages with a very high density and some with a very low density.
ConclusionA simple keyword density of 1.9% can be enough for a first page ranking in Google.com (assuming you have enough quality backlinks – see SEO for CEOs and How to Top Google by Writing Articles for more information).

Happy SEO writing!

Search Engine Optimization - Beware of Scams - Best Practices

Let's first define SEO. It is an acronym for 'search engine optimization'. You can save a lot of time and potentially improve your website by considering to hire an SEO company or a professional, but there are certain facts you need to be aware of. Make sure to figure out the pros and cons as well as the damage that an un-professional SEO can do to your site.

WebPromotion.com provides useful services for website owners, including:
  • Review of your site content or structure
  • Technical advice on website development: for example, hosting, redirects, error pages, use of JavaScript
  • Content development
  • Expertise in specific markets and geographies.

Remember that the search results page at Google often includes paid advertising along with free organic search results. Purchasing advertising spots with Google won't have any effect on your site's appearance in Google's search results.

Google does not ask for money to include or rank sites in their search results, and it does not cost anything to get indexed in Google. Free resources from Google, such as Webmaster Tools, Webmaster Central blog, and discussion groups can provide you with a terrific information on how to optimize your site for natural search results.

Before beginning your search for an SEO, it's a great idea to become an educated consumer and get familiar with how search engines work. We recommend starting here:
Google Webmaster Guidelines (http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769)

Google 101: How Google crawls, indexes and serves the web (http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=70897)

It's high time that you realized you need an SEO company to promote your website. While SEOs can provide clients with valuable services, some unethical SEOs have given the industry a bad name through their overly aggressive and often 'black-hat' marketing techniques and their attempts to manipulate search engine results in questionable ways.

Practices that violate search engine guidelines may result in losing popularity or even getting banned from their index. Here are some things to consider:
Beware of SEO firms and consultants that send you an email out of the blue.

Amazingly, even Google gets these spam emails:
"Dear google.com, I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most of the major search engines and directories..."

The #1 Ranking Guarantee on Google Stay away from SEOs that claim to guarantee #1 rankings, tells you about 'special relationship' with Google, or advertise a 'express submit' to Google. There is no paid or express submit for Google. In fact, the only way is... go to Google directly and add your URL or submit a Sitemap.

Beware of companies that are secretive or won't disclose what they do. Get explanations if you have any questions. If an SEO company uses 'black-hat' techniques like keyword stuffing, creating doorway pages, domain redirects etc. your site could be permanently removed from Google's index. However, you will be responsible for any actions of any companies you hire, so it's best to be sure to know how they intend to "help" you before you begin.

You should never have to link to an SEO website At all costs, do not fall for SEOs that tell you about the power of "free-for-all" links, link exchange schemes, or submitting your site to thousands of search engines. These are just scams and do not improve your results in any way.

Be sure to understand where the money goes. There are some other scammer who collect money from you and just buy top placements (paid advertising) on other websites. Getting listed in the advertising section is totally different from appearing in the natural search results.

What are the most common abuses a website owner is likely to encounter? One of most common scams is the creation of "shadow" domains that channel users to another site by using deceptive redirection scripts. These deceptive domains often will be owned and operated by the SEO company who claims to be working on your behalf. However, if the relationship sours, the company may redirect domain to a different domain, or even to a competitor's site.

Another unethical practice is to use "doorway" pages stuffed with keywords on your site somewhere. The SEO convinces you that this will make the page more relevant for more queries. This is totally false because individual pages are rarely relevant for a broad range of keywords. More dangerous, however, is that these doorway pages often contain hidden links to the SEO's other clients as well. Such practices drain away the link popularity of your site and route it to the SEO and its clients, which may include sites with undesirable or illegal content.

What are other things to look out for? Here are a few warnings to let you know that you may be dealing with a rogue SEO. It's far from a comprehensive list, so if you have any questions, you should trust your instincts. By all means, feel free to walk away if the SEO:

  • owns or operates shadow domains
  • creates or stuffs links on doorway pages
  • offers to sell keywords in the address bar
  • doesn't distinguish between organic and paid search results
  • guarantees top ranking, but only on obscure, unwanted keywords
  • asks your financial login details, credit card numbers
  • operates with multiple names or unknown WHOIS info
  • gets traffic from "fake" search engines, spyware, or scumware
  • has had domains removed from Google's index
  • requests your FTP account or root access to your server

The Experts at 1WebPromotion.com are capable of handling your SEO and website promotion using completely 'white-hat' tactics that the search engine loves. They will never use any 'unethical' means to deceive the search engines. They are top experts and they know what they are doing..

Earning Money Online---A Guide For Beginners

by Paul Krysinski

EARNING MONEY ONLINE---A GUIDE FOR BEGINNERS Earning money online for beginners may seem like a daunting task. When the size of the Internet is considered, it may appear impossible to make your mark in an arena that renders you a drop in the ocean of humanity that is the Internet community. This size however is also what gives you a chance to earn money online. Your desktop, laptop, and cell phone keep you totally connected to the entire community! The biggest question is "how and where do I start?"

The answer is to take your time and gather as much information as possible first.

Many people just jump right into a program thinking they will make money overnight. This is seldom if ever the case. Even many seasoned pros have taken years to weed through different programs and ideas until they found a product, system or method that is consistently profitable. The size of the Internet also provides an unlimited and free amount of information to your front door. If you enter "earn money online" or a variation of the same, you will find a myriad of programs and ideas. The wealth of free information will be a bit overwhelming at first.

Take your time and browse until something really sparks your interest. If you find a product or program you can identify with, you may have a better understanding of what the market or need is for that product. Attempting to earn money online with a product or program that you have little or no understanding of can turn into a frustrating and money losing experience. A product that controls weight loss or enables your computer to run faster will be much easier for you to understand and promote over a product that allows oil transporting tankers to monitor their depth angle in high seas. Identify with products and programs that you think "most people" would find interesting. If you think a product or program is worth promoting, then do all the research possible BEFORE you purchase it.

Again use your computer to venture into forums that may give some insight into the pro's and cons of a particular product or program. Keep in mind however that many comments are made just to promote the product. Many claims are made to earn money online with overnight results. It is possible in some cases to earn money that quickly, but don't quit your job thinking it will happen overnight.

To earn money online will require a commitment of time and usually some investment. Programs that are free will still require an expenditure of some sort along the way. Contacting the seller or tech line for the program you are interested in before you buy it is strongly advised. If there is no contact information available, stay away from that program.

Now, I advise you to start your research, investigate the program or products you are considering and venture into forums and blogs related to those choices. Our next article will be--EARNING MONEY ONLINE---EVALUATING PROGRAMS AND PROFITS.

There are several ways how an internet business can be started. However, no matter which internet business is being initiated, it won't make an impact at first.

The start up costs for an internet home business are next to nothing compared to the offline world of business start ups. In fact it is a lot more simple to start and grow a business on the internet. Of course you need some knowledge to begin your internet home business enterprise. But you don't need a "Bacc" to do business on the web.

All you need is some computer knowledge and some internet marketing basis and a good dose of determination.

Here is some basic tips on how to start an internet home business.

== 1.Write Your Business Goals ==

It is important to set goals and objectives and then take action to accomplish them. This will be your Business Plan.

Here Are Some questions you should ask yourself:

  • Why do I want to start up an Internet Home Business?
  • What product or service can I provide?
  • Do I have the knowledge and expertise to provide this service?
  • Do I know enough about the competition?
  • Where will my customers come from?

Take the time to write down your questions and answers and thoroughly research your chosen market.

== 2. Choose A Product or Service To Sell ==

On the internet you can find hundreds of product or services to sell.

You can sell your own product by creating your own, or purchasing resale rights or being an affiliate with a good internet company.

Don't put your personal gains first. Make sure that the product will deliver what it promises. When you promote a product that leaves the buyer dissatisfied, you' ll only be ruining your business. So sell solutions and the money will come.

== 3. Business Domain Name ==

One important first step is to choose the best domain name you can. Keep it as short and simple as possible.

Think of domain name like " Google " or " Yahoo ". They are short and easy to remember.

I know that some people say to use keyword in you're domain name. But if you choose " Internet Business " there is million of site with this term.

So are you going to use for example "AprofitableInternethomebusiness.com" it might be a nice name but it is too long and not simple.

== 4. Your Business Web Site ==

Having A good business website is essential to succeed with an internet home business. Here is the thing you have to plan to build your website

A) Decide on the website design (color schemes, buttons, special effects etc). However, you may have a preference for a certain color or look. To help you choose a design, you may wish to check out other people's websites or work with your web designer's pre-set templates.

B) The content. There are many items you may wish to include on your website. The most common ones include:

  1. Products And Services
  2. Contact Information
  3. Pricing
  4. Testimonials
  5. Frequently Asked Questions
  6. Resources & Articles
  7. Refund Policy
  8. Privacy Policy
  9. About Us
  10. Site Map
  11. Useful Links
  12. On-line store

== 5. Choose a Web Hosting Company ==

What is a Web hosting Company?

A Web host is a company that provides server space for your website. You can think of a web host as a commercial building. The web host provides space for your website just as a commercial building provides space for your shop or office.

What are some of the things you should look for when choosing a web host? The criteria for choosing a free web host and a commercial web hosting solution are slightly different although they do overlap.

A) Web Space

Does it have enough space for your needs? If you envisage that you will expand your site eventually, you might want to cater for future expansion. Most sites use less than 5MB of web space. Indeed, at one time, one of my other web sites, thefreecountry.com, used less than 5MB of space although it had about 150 pages on the site. Your needs will vary, depending on how many pictures your pages use, whether you need sound files, video clips, etc.

B) Bandwidth allotment

Nowadays, many free web hosts impose a limit on the amount of traffic your website can use per day and per month. This means that if the pages (and graphic images) on your site is loaded by visitors beyond a certain number of times per day (or per month), the web host will disable your web site (or perhaps send you a bill).

It is difficult to recommend a specific minimum amount of bandwidth, since it depends on how you design your site, your target audience, and the number of visitors you're able to attract to your site. In general, 100MB traffic per month is too little for anything other than your personal home page and 1-3GB traffic per month is usually adequate for a simple site just starting out. Your mileage, however, will vary.

C) Reliability and speed of access

This is extremely important. A site that is frequently down will lose a lot of visitors. If someone finds your site on the search engine, and he tries to access it but find that it is down, he'll simply go down the list to find another site. Slow access is also very frustrating for visitors (and for you too, when you upload your site).

How do you know if a host is reliable or fast? If you can't get feedback from anyone, one way is to try it out yourself over a period of time, both during peak as well as non-peak hours. After all, it is free, so you can always experiment with it.

== 6. Shopping Cart ==

No e-commerce website is complete without a secure shopping cart. There are many shopping cart options. Many e-commerce business owners make the mistake of using Pay Pal to accept payments, which immediately tells visitors that their company is very small and not professional.

A good alternative to Pay Pal is a remotely hosted shopping cart. Remote shopping carts take the burden of maintaining security and credit card numbers off your shoulder and places the responsibility on another company. Remote shopping carts can usually be configured to look similar to your website.

In fact, your customers may not realize that they have left your website to place an order. The remote shopping cart provider will give you the HTML to add to your website. When your potential customer clicks on the Buy Now button, he or she is taken to the remote shopping cart to enter the personal information and payment details.

Depending on your choice of a shopping cart, you may or may not need a merchant account to process transactions. Some shopping cart services allow you to use their merchant accounts for a slightly higher fee.

== 7. How To Promote Your Business Website ==

Write An Article: Write an article promoting your site or product. Write an article on a hot topic many people would like more information on and submit it to various e-zines. How do you find out what's hot? Visit a few of the message boards and see what questions are raised often.

Search Engines: Thousands of search engines exist on the Internet. But, you should only be concerned with the top eight or ten. You should manually submit to the top eight: Alta Vista, Excite, Yahoo, Hotbot, Lycos, Northern Light, Infoseek, Webcrawler, and use one of the FREE automatic submission services like *SubmitPlus* to handle the smaller search engines. Directories: List your site here too.

Directories organize sites into categories. Good examples of Directories: Yahoo, Magellan.

Ezine Listings: If you have an e-zine to promote along with your site. Why not list it with one of the many e-zine services on the Internet.

E-zine Library is a good one to start with.

Free Classifieds: You will have to submit to a ton of FREE classifieds to get any significant traffic. Why? You are competing with thousands of other Ads. Remember to work on your Ad copy and make it attention grabbing. Go to one of the popular search engines, type in Free Classifieds, and surf to the top 20 classified sites for beginners.

Often, these sites will lead you to several other Free Classified Sites. In response you'll get a stack of e-mail thanking you for listing your site while barking their promo. Best to get one of those free email accounts. Hot mail is a good one. So is Yahoo mail.

FFA Pages. Free For All's are worth a try. Be prepared for a avalanche of e-mails from FFA web site owners. If your title is attention grabbing you will get a few clicks. Good Attention grabbing headlines, FREE, Limited Time, Limited Offer, Proven, Secrets, and many more if you brainstorm. Check out the sales literature delivered to you by regular mail. Check and see what headlines grab your attention. And why? Incorporate them into your Online Ads.

Tell Friends And Family: If your friends, family, acquaintances, have an Internet Connection, e-mail them telling them about your new website, and ask them to visit often. Offer a FREE incentive if they tell a few friends to surf over. Perhaps, a FREE Ad in your e-zine.

Leave Business Cards or Flyers: Leave these promo pieces with small businesses in your community. All relevant contact information; email address, URL, telephone number, should be included. Offer a freebie to anyone who visits your site. A free e-book, report.

== 8. TRACK YOUR MARKETING ==

Here are some questions to consider:

1) How many unique visitors come to your website?

2) How many visitors opt-in to your mailing list or order your products?

3) When you send emails, how many are opened and how many people actually click through to your website?

The reason these question are so important is because if you don't know these stats, you won't know what to improve. It could be different things; like your headlines, the content or navigation on your website. You won't know until you start checking all your marketing offer.

== 9. YOUR BUSINESS IN CONCLUSION ==

Think of your first six months primarily as a training period. Don't expect large earnings until after you've educated yourself.

Even the most dynamic, highest-earning entrepreneurs in the industry took MONTHS to begin seeing an income of any real significance with their internet home business.

Don't be a negative thinker and don't let the negative attitudes of others (even if they're family members, friends, or peers) influence you.

All the great men and women in history had to overcome the naysayers who said it couldn't be done and then went out and did it. Think for yourself!

As long as you think positive and focused on your internet home business target you re on the right way to a rich life, which is directed by you and it will lead you to tremendous success and personnal satisfaction.

Building an Internet business can be very rewarding when you start making money online out of the comforts of your own home. If you've always wanted to be self-employed and be your own boss. Then having an internet business will open this up for you. You just need to work on it.

Guaranteed Extra Cash Online

by: Peter V. Ruble

For college students and other people who feel burned out trying to balance paying the bills and living at the same time, ads like these can prove to be irresistible. Many of them make perfect sense and easily hook you based on good concepts. Unfortunately, many times the product or service does not match the brilliance of a great idea for making money from home or through the Internet. As I’ve learned myself, the further you go down this road, the more excited you get.

You basically get hooked, and if you aren’t careful, you will end up working hard and falling further into debt than you can imagine. Much like gambling, the lure of easy money and independence can make just about anyone fall prey to work at home scams that feed off your dreams to get to your wallet so they can go on to the next victim.

Hopefully, you will never fall victim to these scam artists. However, the fact of the matter is that these scammers would not be wasting their time if they were not making any money. And as long as people continue to get mixed up in this business, these scammers are going to stick around to trick more and more people.

The best way to keep a scammer’s claws away from your credit card is to do thorough research on each opportunity that you are considering. This means doing much more than simply reading a bit about it online. In my personal experience, I have been taken by companies who were savvy enough to pollute the Internet with staged testimonials, guarantees, questionable references to big name endorsements, and even appearances in the Better Business Bureau.

A colleague of mine who invested in vending machine placement services even went so far as to physically go to the manufacturing plant to tour the warehouse as well as contact the Better Business Bureau of that state. What he received, in return, were twenty malfunctioning candy machines with a list of local businesses who had apparently agreed to receive them. Not only did none of these businesses know what he was talking about, many of them were hostile when he showed up to place them.

What you want to do is check message boards such as the ASK section of Yahoo.com. Another simple method of weeding out the scams from the genuine opportunities is to go to a search engine and simply type in the company name followed by the word “scam”. If you do this, and you are barraged by an endless list of complaints, you my friend have found a nugget of gold in a sea of mud.

In terms of the Better Business Bureau, it is best to contact them directly to ask about any complaints, and also find out how long a company has been listed. The Better Business Bureau operates state by state. They will be able to tell you if they have any complaints on file. If they do, you will want to avoid the opportunity at all costs. But if it appears that a company is doing business the right way, you can continue your own research.

Being in the Business Bureau is not necessarily that hard to accomplish. Many scammers can use their money and connections to set up a front to initially qualify for the Better Business Bureau just long enough for them to collect their cash from unsuspecting victims, close shop, create a new identity and start again.

Before you decide to do anything, attempt to get in touch with the company that you are interested in. Can you get a human being on the phone? Do they have an actually physical address? How long does it take them to respond to your e-mails, if at all? If you cannot even talk to the company before you start, there is not chance that they will be around when you really need them. I once made quite a bit of money selling vacation vouchers on auction sites. The marketing plan was sound, and the money saving vouchers was a hit. Only problem was, I could never get in touch with their customer service department to handle my customer inquiries and complaints once I realized that the promises that existed in writing on the vouchers were misleading at best. This proved to be such a problem that it took me over a year to recover from the negative publicity on my auction site.

Of course, there are legitimate home based businesses out there. With the Internet and all the low cost, web producing tools available, there seems to be a renaissance in entrepreneurship. Basically, just find a product or service you can market online, and do your research. Sell on EBay if you don’t want to build your own website. You can have a website their and all search engine marketing is already done by EBay. The Small Business Association has an office in downtown Tacoma and contains invaluable information on their website http://www.sba.com. Since small business is the backbone of our country economically, sources such as these are eager to help you create a plan with realistic expectations.

However, like anything else worthwhile, you have to do your homework and work hard at it. The problem is that too many people make you think you can practically go online and make money just clicking on a mouse. You want to steer clear of any business that asks to you to pay for their “Top Secret” e-book that will teach you how to make an automated income.”

Think about it, if you are in dire need of cash, can you imagine any other situation in which you would not only work for free, but pay for the privilege to work. There are no magic formals or secrets worth paying for. All of the information in these e-books can be found for free through your own research if you have common internet skills.

If you don’t want to work hard and just make a few easy extra bucks without donating your blood or volunteering to be a guinea pig, it is possible to make some good extra money filling out online surveys or through mystery shopping. There are real opportunities out there which require no fee to get started. Not only that, several of them will even give you a $5 bonus just for signing up. If a company such as this is legitimate, they would be making lots of money through the success of its members. Companies that require that $49.97 start up fee only make money through the fee and only want to teach you how to get other people to do the same. The products are all useless lists and general information that anyone with a functioning mind could figure out on their own, or get for free by doing their own research.

In 12 years of trying to make a living on the Internet, the following are the best companies I have ever encountered for making a few extra bucks filling out surveys, playing games and mystery shopping. They probably won’t pay the rent, but if you’re interested in making an extra $400 or $500 a month or eating out at nice restaurants and going to movies for free, you may want to check these out:

Mystery Shopping Providers Association: ." target=new>http://www.mysteryshop.org/shoppers/">.

This site contains all the information you will ever need on starting up as a mystery shopper. It is also a portal for the best sites to go to for mystery shopping jobs online, and they don’t require that you invest a penny.

InboxDollars.com. (you can sign up for free and get $5 just for signing up. You can make a few hundred dollars in one day, theoretically, if you are willing to use a credit card to sign up for free or paid trials. Just make sure you have the patience to fill out the long surveys and keep detailed records so you can remember to cancel your free trials before you get charged. Also, you can fill out surveys to make a dollar or two which are completely free. I’ve made about $400 with this site.

http://www..sendearnings.com.(almost identical to InboxDollars.com)

http://www.treasuretrooper.com. (a lot of free surveys and cool games).

http://www.tiktikcash.com. By far the best of the survey sites. The free surveys are tremendous. You can make a dollar or two in one minute. This site has the shortest, most painless surveys. I made over thirty bucks in less than after signing up.
